What is Early Mathematical Thinking (EMT)?
Early Mathematical Thinking (EMT) is a diagnostic assessment tool intended to uncover students’ current level of understanding in numeracy and measurement and to guide ongoing instruction. It was funded by the Maine Department of Education. EMT was developed from state, national and international research on mathematics teaching and learning. It is adapted from the Early Numeracy Research Project (2001) in Australia, which designed the content of the screening and interview materials.
